~ homemade porridge can be flavoured with many spices, dried berries, fruits or nuts; this recipe includes raspberries topped with traditional cream ~


1 cup water
1 cup milk
1 cup quick oats
raspberries or other fruits

bring the water and milk to a boil in a saucepan, constantly stirring to avoid burning.  Add the quick oats and stir briskly to remove any lumps.  Let simmer on low heat for 15 minutes, stirring every 2-3 minutes.  Ladle into cereal bowls and add raspberries and cream to flavour.  Serves approximately 2-3 people

additional flavourings include nutmeg, cinnamon, brown sugar, vanilla, raisins, apple, dried berries such as blueberries, walnuts, almonds … or even sugar and scottish whisky!  Add several spices and berries combinations for a tasty breakfast.
